Spinks asks via Blog Azeroth Which town, quest, NPC, or zone really needs to be purged with fire, in your opinion? Will you enjoy dancing on the ashes of a particularly hated quest giver? Or is there some zone you avoid like the plague (plaguelands excluded) where being nuked from orbit could only improve the experience? And why do you hate it/them so much?

To this I can only give one answer:

That bitch Tabetha must die in a fire!

My very first character in WOW was a Mage way back in classic, at the tender level of 30 I got a quest to Journey to the Marsh. I was left running through Dustwallow Marsh prior to its overhaul searching desperately for her shack (which has since been renovated and made into a farm), prior to the overhaul of Dustwallow, traveling through the zone was quite terrible. I recall clearly being chased, dazed, and slain repeatedly as I wandered hopelessly around the marsh looking for this bitch.

It was only with assistance that I found her. I finally make it to her only for her to say, “Quiet! I’m in a delicate juncture and mustn’t be disturbed!”

Well fuck you too, bitch!

The quests that this lead to were level 40 quests. Being a new player in early classic, I had no one higher level to really ask for help, so I attempted to do these quests alone. I figured if I was given the quest at level 30 I should be able to complete it at level 30, that’s logical, right? Right?

Wrong! The quests involved killing elite mobs many levels above me, going into the back door of Uldaman, and generally having a miserable time. I remember the mana surges being exceptionally difficult because I didn’t understand the event very well and at the time there was little information out there.

And I did all this for what? For a wand that gives me 4 int and a piddly amount of spellpower. What I wanted when leveling wasn’t int. Fuck int. I wanted stamina so I might live!

Since then I have rued Tabetha in a way words cannot describe. To this day I call her “That bitch, Tabetha”. I recalled just the other day mentioning her while turning in Tiara of the Deep on my second Paladin.

Hate hate hate hate hate.
I nominate Tabetha to die in a fire, and her whole crappy zone too!

It’s annoying – she’s sadly not the only questgiver like that (though by far one of the ones in the most inconvenient location for a lower level character, especially since back then you didn’t have a mount at level 30 but had to make that journey on foot!)

There have been several times in WoW when you get a quest to seek out such and such and when you get there the follow-up quest is like 10 levels higher. It doesn’t make sense. Why even send me there yet??

I hope this is one of the things they fix in Cataclysm.

I don’t remember the quests being the wrong level, but I do remember wandering aimlessly around Dustwallow being attacked by crocodiles while trying to find her. And no matter how many times I had visited her before, she was always hard to find.

If I got to remove one NPC from the game completely it would have to be Foreman Grills. Your silly reference of a name does not forgive the horrors that I suffered in the Sludge Fen on my first character. I WAS JUST GETTING SOME BUCKETS OF SCREWS! *sob*
